Dr. Alexis Garcia is a clinical psychologist who provides evidence-based psychotherapy and comprehensive psychological assessment for children, adolescents, and adults. She works with individuals navigating anxiety, stress, depression, ADHD, perfectionism, self-esteem and body image concerns, academic and professional pressures, relationship difficulties, and life transitions.
Dr. Garcia often works with bright, motivated, high-achieving individuals who function successfully in many areas while privately struggling with pressure, attention, confidence, relationships, or patterns that have become difficult to change. Her approach combines cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) with insight-oriented, relational, and systems perspectives. She considers personality, relationships, family dynamics, culture, identity, and developmental history to understand each client within the broader context of their life.
Dr. Garcia works with children, adolescents, and young adults experiencing anxiety, ADHD and executive-function difficulties, perfectionism, academic stress, social challenges, self-esteem and body image concerns, and developmental or family transitions. She is particularly attentive to capable students who may be achieving academically while working considerably harder than others realize to manage attention, organization, test anxiety, friendships, confidence, or increasing expectations. She helps young people identify their strengths, develop practical skills, and become more confident and flexible in managing challenges. When appropriate, she collaborates with parents, educators, and other professionals.
Dr. Garcia also has specialized experience working with adolescents and adults with eating and body image concerns. She understands how these difficulties can intersect with anxiety, perfectionism, identity, relationships, mood, self-esteem, and the pressure to achieve. Drawing from CBT while incorporating DBT, ACT, relational, and family-based approaches when appropriate, she helps clients address current concerns while developing a deeper understanding of the patterns underlying them.
In addition to psychotherapy, Dr. Garcia provides comprehensive psychological and psychoeducational evaluations to clarify why an individual may be struggling academically, professionally, socially, or emotionally, particularly when the underlying reason is not immediately apparent. Using psychological, educational, and neuropsychological measures, she examines cognitive abilities, attention and executive functioning, learning and academic achievement, personality, and social-emotional functioning. Her assessment experience includes ADHD, learning differences, developmental concerns, and diagnostic clarification.
For children and adolescents, an evaluation can help explain why a bright, motivated student may struggle with reading, writing, mathematics, attention, organization, or test performance. For adults, assessment can clarify longstanding difficulties with attention, organization, productivity, decision-making, or other challenges that become more apparent as professional and personal demands increase.
Dr. Garcia looks beyond individual test scores to identify subtle patterns, discrepancies, strengths, and vulnerabilities across an evaluation. This integrated perspective can uncover issues that are otherwise difficult to recognize and can meaningfully inform treatment, educational planning, and support. Each evaluation culminates in a comprehensive report that translates complex findings into clear, actionable recommendations for the individual, family, school, workplace, or other professionals as appropriate.
Across both psychotherapy and assessment, Dr. Garcia recognizes that outward success does not always reflect how someone is functioning internally. Her work combines practical, evidence-based strategies with deeper exploration of the patterns influencing how clients think, feel, relate to others, and respond to pressure. She approaches her work with warmth, curiosity, cultural sensitivity, and respect, creating a collaborative environment where clients can develop greater self-understanding, use their strengths more effectively, and make meaningful changes in their personal, academic, professional, and relational lives.
At Greenwich Psychology Group, our symptom checker helps clients track their symptoms of depression or anxiety. Taking the assessment doesn't provide a formal diagnosis, but it can help you determine what next steps you may need to take. The evaluation uses a series of questions to review the feelings and symptoms you've experienced over the past two weeks. The results will help you distinguish if professional help is the best next step.
