Getting Started

For many, deciding to see a therapist is difficult. At Greenwich Psychology Group, our goal is to make this process as comfortable as we can. During the initial phone consultation, Dr. Zackson and her team will get to know you and begin to understand how we can help you achieve your goals. This is also a good time for us to decide which clinician specializes in your area of concern and meeting your unique needs.

To schedule a complimentary consultation, please email the front desk at frontdesk@greenwichpsychology.com or call (203) 900-1666 and describe what is concerning you. We will respond promptly and provide you with further information about our practice. Depending on your needs, we can schedule a phone consultation, in-person meeting, or one over video.

Therapeutic process

The process of psychotherapy is different for each individual. But a commonality is that the therapeutic process is a journey toward self-discovery: of one’s potentials, strengths, and innate ability to heal. We often receive positive feedback from patients that we do more than ‘listen.’ Our expert clinicians help individuals gain insight and provide evidence-based techniques to foster growth and change, leading to you feeling more comfortable and productive in your life.

There are two general kinds of approaches to psychotherapy open-ended and structured sessions:

Open-ended sessions: For some, the best way to work toward solutions is to share whatever is on their mind in an ‘open-ended’ way. Weekly sessions dedicated to this process can facilitate awareness and personal growth. Our goal in this type of therapy is to provide a space for exploration, provide guidance, and help you gain insight into important aspects of yourself that may impact your current life stress or situation.

Structured sessions: For some, the solution to a problem may be best found through structured therapy sessions. Here, a clear plan is developed collaboratively. In our sessions, we may practice specific skills, or review certain types of interactions, with targeted treatment goals.

GPG clinicians are trained and experienced in both open-ended and structured approaches; we also combine them if appropriate. In your initial sessions, we will work together to determine the best approach.

How often would I come to therapy?

That depends on your reason for coming to therapy. Some clients come every week, and others come less frequently. Some clients may attend twice a week if they have had a particular issue such as a break-up or other reasons they need extra support that week. You and your therapist will determine the frequency that works best for your situation.

Take the GPG Symptom Checker

At Greenwich Psychology Group, our symptom checker helps clients track their symptoms of depression or anxiety. Taking the assessment doesn't provide a formal diagnosis, but it can help you determine what next steps you may need to take. The evaluation uses a series of questions to review the feelings and symptoms you've experienced over the past two weeks. The results will help you distinguish if professional help is the best next step.
