Meet Ryan VanCompernolle, LMSW

Therapist

Ryan VanCompernolle is a therapist specializing in the treatment of children, adolescents, and college-age young adults. With an undergraduate degree from New York University in psychology and dance and a graduate degree in psychology from Fordham University, Ryan brings both clinical depth and creative insight to her practice. She works with young adults navigating a wide range of challenges including depression, anxiety, ADHD, social anxiety, self-harm, trauma, academic stress, and relationship difficulties. Her therapeutic approach combines evidence-based modalities—including CBT, DBT, Trauma-Focused CBT, and motivational interviewing—with a mindfulness-informed, insight-oriented framework. Ryan is particularly skilled at helping emerging adults build self-awareness, strengthen emotional regulation, and develop tools for personal growth and resilience. She creates a collaborative, supportive space where clients feel understood, respected, and empowered to overcome internal and external obstacles. Her ability to foster a strong therapeutic alliance through transparent communication and unconditional positive regard allows her clients to engage deeply in their work.

With younger children, Ryan draws on her advanced training in Child-Parent Psychotherapy and Child-Centered Play Therapy, along with her background in dance and the creative arts. She excels at working with children who struggle to express themselves verbally, using movement, art, play, and somatic techniques to help children access and process their emotions. Her developmentally sensitive interventions support children facing trauma, anxiety, ADHD, autism, and emotional regulation challenges. Through mirror games, movement storytelling, and creative play, Ryan promotes emotional expression, impulse control, and healthy attachment. She integrates verbal reflection, imaginative play, and intentional observation to strengthen self-awareness and interpersonal connection. Whether working with a family system or an individual child, Ryan meets each client where they are—curating treatment plans that are flexible, collaborative, and grounded in both clinical theory and deep empathy. Her approach bridges the gap between body and mind, helping children feel empowered, understood, and more connected to themselves and others.

Outside of her clinical work, Ryan is a proud mother of a rambunctious toddler and lives with her husband in Brooklyn, NY. She enjoys spending time outdoors with her family and finds balance through hot yoga and Pilates. Ryan brings the same creativity, curiosity, and grounded presence she values in her personal life to her therapeutic relationships—helping clients of all ages feel seen, understood, and empowered to grow.

Take the GPG Symptom Checker

At Greenwich Psychology Group, our symptom checker helps clients track their symptoms of depression or anxiety. Taking the assessment doesn't provide a formal diagnosis, but it can help you determine what next steps you may need to take. The evaluation uses a series of questions to review the feelings and symptoms you've experienced over the past two weeks. The results will help you distinguish if professional help is the best next step.
